Mizna presents a special New York City reading with an electric roster of authors who will be published in our forthcoming issue, Mizna 26.1: Kindred—Sara Deniz Akant, Nancy Agabian, Farah Barqawi, and Malvika Jolly. Join us on September 12, 2025 at 7pm sharp at the beautiful headquarters of our pals, the Asian American Writers’ Workshop.
This reading is one of a series of national poetry programming themed Poetry and Shelter, which Mizna and AAWW are part of as members of the Poetry Coalition, an alliance of nearly thirty independent poetry organizations across the United States.
Nancy Agabian is a queer Armenian American writer. She is the author of a poetry collection, Princess Freak; a memoir, Me as her again; and a novel, The Fear of Large and Small Nations. She lives in southeastern Massachusetts and has creative roots in Los Angeles, New York, and Yerevan.
Sara Deniz Akant is a Turkish American poet. She is the author of Hyperphantasia (Rescue Press), a New York Times book of the year and winner of the Massachusetts Book Award, as well as Babette (Rescue Press) and Parades (Omnidawn). She is Professor of the Practice at Tufts University and co-curates the Kan Yama Kan reading series in Brooklyn.
Farah Barqawi is a writer, poet, performer, educator, and feminist organizer. She works across multiple genres and mediums. Her poetry and prose have appeared in multiple languages, both online and in print. She holds a master’s degree in public policy from the University of Chicago and an MFA in creative nonfiction writing from New York University. Farah lives between New York City and Berlin.
Malvika Jolly is a South Asian poet, translator, and educator. She is assistant managing editor of Washington Square Review and runs The New Third World, a poetry reading series inspired by the Non-Aligned Movement.
