The paintings of Kamala Ibrahim Ishag, a key figure in many Sudanese modernist art movements, perhaps most famously the Crystalist movement, will grace the pages of The Black SWANA Issue. Additionally, poet Charif Shanahan sits down with guest-editor Safia Elhillo for an interview.

This anniversary issue, Twenty Years, features authors who’ve been with us since the very first year of Mizna, as well as many new, vibrant voices. The visual art in this issue is from Alaa Satir, an artist who has been closely involved in the ongoing Sudanese revolution.
